Lounging in Luxury

When the heart says yes but the bank account says no.

Self-isolation – and don’t even have any nice loungewear. We’re going through the toughest time of our lives right now and most are confined to their homes. But can we all just take a minute, light a scented candle, make a cup of tea and dream a little dream? As I sit here wearing um.. something not so pretty I’m sharing all the loungewear I wish I was wearing while in ISO.

It’s been a while since I’ve scoured the internet and put together a wish list to share, and it was actually quite fun. At times like this, I’m so glad to have my blog and technology. Something to keep me occupied and creative that I can share with all of you. I think I’ll do them more often.

Studio Pia – Ethically Decadent

Studio Pia - Ethically Decadent

This is definitely a review that has been long overdue but better late than never so here it is. I’ve been lucky enough to add one of my ultimate wish list pieces the ethically decadent “Soraya” by Studio Pia to my collection. I first set my eyes on Soraya in the ivory colourway back when I added it to my Christmas picks. Luckily for me, the black was released and available at my local, Babylikestopony.

I tried it on and instantly fell in love.

The Brand

I first met Pia in Paris at the Salon de la Lingerie last year. It’s always lovely to meet the people behind the brand as you get a real feel for who you are about to support. I’m glad to say I am so happy to support this beautiful brand. They were lovely, down to earth and handed out ginger cookies with lingerie-clad icing (the important stuff!). It was my first time viewing their beautiful pieces in the flesh and I was in awe.

Personally, I don’t think there is a better luxury brand out there at the moment that is creating beautiful lingerie and are ethical as well as taking sustainability seriously. Studio Pia proves that style shouldn’t have to be sacrificed by choosing to be ethical and I agree with them 100%.

Not only do they choose their suppliers well, but they are also the only lingerie company offering cruelty-free organic peace silk. For each product sold on their website, they will plant one tree in Indonesia in an effort to help deforestation.

Now if that alone doesn’t get you ready to throw money at them keep reading.

The Details

Left to right, Gustav Klimt, “Adele Bloch-Bauer I”, “Judith and the Head of Holofernes”, “The Kiss”

The beautiful Soraya was inspired by the decadence of the Art Noveau period especially Gustave Klimt’s Gold phase. The embroidery is one of the most beautiful things I have ever put on my body. One wouldn’t expect any less as it is completely bespoke and designed in house by Pia herself then produced in France.

All of the hardware used is 24K gold plated which has been sourced within the EU.

Inclusive Lingerie

For most of my grown-up life, I’ve had trouble with body image. My body image. I come from an Asian background so it was always normal to be told I was too skinny or too fat. Being skinny was supposed to be taken as a compliment. So it’s always been hard for me to accept my body the way it is but I’m trying every day.

How many times have you bought something you saw in a catalogue because it looked great on the model, only to put it on and have buyers remorse? Way too many times. So this is an appreciation post to those women behind these brands, the women shaping the way we see lingerie today. And though more brands are claiming to empower women here are the few that stand out and make me feel good enough. I’m glad to say that I’m not growing up in this day and age where you cannot escape mainstream media. There are so many beauty standards which all lead to the “ideal” female form. I know so many women who aspire to look like the women they see in magazines or social media and I can’t disagree more. Purely because everyone’s body types are different, there is so much retouching done yet we are still obsessed with attaining this image.

The reason I started my blog was with hopes that it would be seen by the younger generation and expose them to a different form which is not advertised as the “Ideal” body type. So in hopes of diluting these unattainable beauty ideals, I’ll continue to put my body out there.

What I admire most about the lingerie industry are the brands that take the chance to be inclusive to all ages, body types and ethnicities. After all, lingerie is for everybody. It’s so refreshing to see lingerie on bodies you can relate to.

Here are some of the brands that bring me sunshine.

Tisja Damen

Inspired by the elements of nature Tisja Damen tells stories through her campaigns. Her designs are handmade in Europe and worn by a diverse circle of women. She has proven that each woman has a unique beauty regardless of age or ethnicity.

Dorina – Eco Fabulous

Dorina Tara
This set has been gifted to me by Dorina for the purpose of a review. As usual, this review has been written with utmost honesty.

Though I love wearing and writing about luxury lingerie I often get asked about more affordable brands. As I don’t usually wear cheaper lingerie on the spectrum it’s what my readers ask about the most. I’ll try to explore this area more this year because I totally understand not everyone can afford to spend that much on lingerie as we addicts do. When Dorina offered to send me something from their AW19 range I thought it would be a great start.

I didn’t know what to expect, this was unchartered territory for me. When I received my new goodies in the mail I was pleasantly surprised at how much I actually liked them.

Dorina Tara

The Brand

I don’t know much about this brand but what I do know seems to be on the sunny side. The company is very transparent about their ethical standards which is always a good sign. Dorina is a German lingerie and swimwear brand that has been around since the late sixties.

They have expertise in fuller bust sizes and are committed to sustainability by introducing more ECO-fibres in their collections. 100% sustainable packaging with no virgin plastic and paper will be used from 2020. 99% of their products are OEKO-TEX certified and they are devoted to celebrating the female body by not editing their products images. So I’m here and glad to give them a try.

The Details

I pay a lot of attention to all the pretty little details. When I saw the images online and the bow on the panties were beige, and the bow on the bra was green it made me uneasy. I couldn’t handle non perfectly matched details. Glad to say when my set arrived both the bows were green, phew! This set was adorable.

Dorina Tara Soft Cup Bra

Let me introduce you to “Tara” which is part of Dorina’s Eco line. The line uses regenerated fabrics, organic produced cotton and laces that are less impactful on our planet.

The Bra

Dorina Tara Bra
Tara bra £17.99 (approx $34 aud)

The bra comes in three different styles, a non-padded bra, t-shirt bra and a soft bra which I opted for. It has scalloped edging, is double layered with beige mesh, beige lace with floral embroidery and green scalloped edges.

Je joue beaucoup, thanks to a little rabbit

I haven’t written a sex toy review for ages because the fact is, I haven’t actually bought any new toys for a few years. About 4 or 5 years ago, I invested heavily in some very expensive vibrating toys as well as some cheaper novelty bits and bobs like a vibrating butterfly you wear in your knickers, a suction dildo that turned out to be way too big and various pairs of nipple clamps. As I fully expected, you get what you pay for when it comes to sex toys. The luxury vibrators have given me exactly what I needed – reliable orgasms at the push of a discreet button. The rest of it, well I wish there was a sustainable way of disposing of sex toys, but there isn’t, and I dread to think how long silicone takes to break down. So you see, I apply the same philosophy to sex toys as I do to everything else I consume. Buy less and buy well. Those luxury vibrators are still giving me excellent service, hence no need to get anything else.

When I saw the discreet Rabbit Bullet Vibrator by Jejoue (RBV) with “Intense Vibrating Ears” and saw the lively and vigorous movement of those ears, and felt its deep vibrations in my hand, and its smooth silicone skin, well, I just fell in love right there with that joyful, little chap. Je Joue kindly gifted me an RBV in teal to try out and I skipped home like a happy, horny bunny (is there any other kind?).

With a tiny little charging USB port, the RBV takes 2 hours to charge, giving you a full 2 hours of usage. Je Joue prides itself on using the highest grade of silicone in all its toys, which come in a range of colours, dark purple being the most popular. The deep rumbly motor guarantees to stimulate the deepest recesses of the clitoris. 90% of the clitoris is hidden behind the soft tissue of the labia and inside the vagina, reaching almost to the anus. Stimulating the whole clitoris is often an impossible task, leading most people to focus only on the clitoral tip, which is often too sensitive to endure prolonged, vigorous stimulation. The tech and design that goes into the Je Joue toys sets it apart from the cheaper versions, and being a tech nerd, I’m curious to start experimenting with the RBV.
